Hi, Activists!

On March 7th, 2012, PETA Asia staffers will be visiting Kuala Lumpur for an eye-catching public education event which will feature people painted as fish lying on nets to encourage people to go vegetarian. We need several activists to join our demonstration and be painted. If you’d rather not be costumed, there are also various other ways you can help (see below for more details!).

Fish who are ripped from the ocean suffer from rapid decompression, which can cause their swim bladders to rupture, their eyes to pop out of their heads, or their stomachs to be forced through their mouths. Then they’re tossed onto a ship, where many are crushed to death or slowly suffocate. Others are still alive when they are cut open. On fish factory farms, tens or even hundreds of thousands of fish are confined to cramped, filthy enclosures, and parasitic infections, diseases, and debilitating injuries are rampant.

We need your help to make this demo successful! Please contact me at ClaireF@PETAAsiaPacific.com if you’re able to help in any of the following ways or know someone who can:

  • We need several activists to participate in the demo on March 7th by wearing fish costumes (full costume including tops for girls, fins and silver body paint will be provided).
  • We need volunteers who can make follow-up calls in Malay to media outlets. The calls need to be done on the afternoon before and/or the morning of the demo. The calls are very simple and are just intended to verify that the media outlet has received our news release. We are grateful for any help with media calls—even five calls can make a big difference!
  • We need non-costumed volunteers to attend the demo and hand out leaflets to passers-by.

Please reply to this e-mail for more information about any of these projects.

Thanks so much for everything you do for animals!

Sincerely,

Claire Fryer

Kuala Lumpur — Covered from head to toe in bright green bodypaint, a member of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) will hold a sign reading, “Go Green, Go Vegan”, at Bukit Bintang on Tuesday to urge Malaysians to switch to a healthy, humane and eco-friendly vegetarian diet:

Date: Tuesday, 7 June  |  Time:  12 noon sharp |   Place: In front of May Bank and the Yayasan Selangor building (at the corner of Bukit Bintang and Jalan Sultan Ismail), Kuala Lumpur

“The best thing that any of us can do to for our health, for animals and for the environment is to go vegetarian”, says PETA campaigner Ashley Fruno. “Whether it’s climate change, the overuse of land resources, massive water and air pollution or soil erosion, eating animals is wreaking havoc on the Earth.” Source: PETA Asia Pacific
